Be The Light
In a world filled with anger, fear and darkness be the light. These powerful words were written by Thomas Rhett during the pandemic. Joining him in this song are Keith Urban, Chris Tomlin, Hillary Scott and Reba McEntire. Their uplifting song calls for us all to be the light in these dark times. Thank you to all these amazing artists for using their talents to remind us that we hold the power to change the world within us. This song fills my heart with hope. Hope that the world can come together and find peace. Hope that each and every one of us can look inward and find the connection which we share with every other human on this planet. Let’s flood the world with light, fill every heart with warmth and make a difference. In a time full of war, be peace In a time full of doubt, just believe Yeah, there ain't that much difference between you and me In a time full of war, be peace In a world full of hate, be a light When you do somebody wrong, make it right Don't hide in the dark, you were born to shine In a world full of hate, be a light (La-la-la, la, la, la, la) In a place that needs change, make a difference In a time full of noise, just listen 'Cause life is but a breeze, better live it In a place that needs a change, make a difference In a world full of hate, be a light When you do somebody wrong, make it right Oh, don't hide in the dark, you were born to shine In a world full of hate, be a light

I'm a firm believer that Kindness in fact, does change everything! Take Christmas for instance, why do I love the Christmas season? Anyone who knows me will tell you Christmas makes me feel hopeful. You see, I believe that kindness is the magic of Christmas. Amidst the twinkling lights, the joyous sounds of the season, and the transformation of stores and homes in to winter wonderlands, you’ll find that people become just a bit kinder. It might be a nod as you pass on the street, smiles shared between strangers, or a "Thank you" as someone holds the door for another person. I strive to do these things every day and genuinely feel happy inside when someone seems touched by the smallest of gestures. Knowing that I may have made a difference in someone’s day reminds me of that we are all in this together. You can imagine how wonderful I feel during the holidays, when the world seems to find that key element in human interaction, kindness and act on it. If only that warm fuzzy interaction could continue past January, but as the decorations get packed up and life returns to normal again, people turn inward and lose the spirit of kindness. To my surprise, during the worst time of our lives, the pandemic, kindness showed up again. The world as a whole began praying for each other. Neighbors checked on the elderly. People offered to pick up groceries for those with compromised immune systems. Masked strangers gave each other a head nod. Food banks surfaced to help those who lost their jobs. In the most dire of times filled with fear, anxiety and uncertainty, kindness returned, giving me hope. Hope that maybe we will be reminded of how important it is for us to show up for one another, not just a Christmas, not just during a pandemic, but every day. Sending each one of you a smile and a hug! Fall In Love
It’s Fall Y’All and I can hardly contain my excitement. Autumn finds me giddy with joy as leaves begin to turn colors and the first crisp air breezes in. Bonfires and hayrides make me feel all snugly. Yes, Fall has always conjured up the emotion of falling in love to me. Walking hand in hand through a sunflower field or sitting close on a cool crisp night watching a football game under the lights. Cozying up with a good romance book. Love is simply in the air. Our summers are always filled with tons of family cookouts, beach time and smores by the fire-pit in the evenings, but September signals a calm for us. Kids return to school and a sense of order is once again restored. It’s a time for us, a time where we can fall in love all over again. My husband and I were married on November 17th. Every year we go away to Lancaster County in early November for our Anniversary. We enjoy the delicious treats that Autumn brings, Pumpkin pie, Carmel apples, and cornbread stuffing. We drive through the rolling hills of Lancaster and enjoy the fields of hay stalks, pumpkin patches and corn mazes. I buy a ton of home décor, (which I absolutely don’t need), white pumpkins, black and white buffalo check runners, blankets in warm tones of rust and cream plaid, pillows, so many pillows! So, when the first leaf falls, my heart goes with it. The season for cuddling begins. The answer for me is an astounding yes! I believe in love, the kind where two people share a mutual admiration, respect, and unwavering devotion. Now for the naysayers, please refrain from eye-rolling until you hear me out. Love comes in many forms, the type we feel for our parents, siblings, children or friends. There's the type of love we feel for our job, a new pair of stilettos or when you sink your teeth into a hot brownie sundae.
However, what if I told you there is a more important love than all of the above? I believe the single most important love one can feel is self-love. To truly love another person, one must first learn to cherish oneself. The key to being able to give and experience true love begins with your ability to identify the things required of you to make your own heart happy, as well as harnessing the strength to nurture oneself when you feel a dose of empathy is needed. So first recognize you deserve to be loved, then watch as the world reciprocates. If you haven't found your one true love, peek in the mirror first, then just believe. While you wait for your forever love, remember love is all around us in so many forms. In the meantime, I'm sending some love your way. |
